Winemaker Notes & Critical Acclaim:

This Chardonnay offers subtle aromas of jasmine flower, citrus oil, green apple and pear. The elegant aromatics are complemented by fresh kiwi, lemon drop and Pippin apple flavors. The fruit-focused mid-palate is followed by subtle mineral notes and a hint of crystallized ginger in the finish.- Winemaker Note

Luscious, rich and full of creamy white fruit flavors flanked by buttery accents. Spicy plushness lingers into the finish, with some honeyed notes. - 92 Points Wine Spectator

Leading off the Chardonnays (there are two early release 2018s), the appellation 2018 Chardonnay Russian River Valley is a great introduction into the wines of this estate and has a richer, expansive, medium to full-bodied style offering lots of golden apple, musky pineapple, brioche, and honeysuckle aromas and flavors. It's a textured, beautifully balanced, superb appellation Chardonnay - 92 Points Jeb Dunnuck
Already bottled, the 2018 Chardonnay Russian River Valley sings of fresh Bosc pears, white peaches and pink grapefruit with hints of powdered ginger, shaved almonds and white pepper. Medium-bodied, the palate has great vibrancy and juiciness with effortless fruit expression and lovely savory layers on the finish. I wish all Chardonnays at this price point tasted this good! - 91 Points Robert Parker

The 2018 Chardonnay (Russian River) is a gorgeous appellation-level wine. Bright floral and citrus notes give the Russian River Chardonnay lovely tension. This is such a terrific introduction to the vintage. - 90 Points Vinous

About The Producer:

Hartford Family Winery is a wine producer located in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County. The estate was established in 1994 by Jenny and Don Hartford and has gained a reputation as one of Sonoma's premier producers for top quality Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Zinfandel.

The wines come from around the region, from vineyards in the Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast, Green Valley, Carneros, Anderson Valley, and Marin County, as well as in Oregon appellations. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are planted at specific cool-climate sites and make up the bulk of the estate's wine portfolio. The vineyards are chosen for their low yields, and a limited amount of wine is made. Hartford's Zinfandel comes from old vines in Russian River that are as much as 100 years old.

Hartford Family Winery employs traditional winemaking techniques. The grapes are handpicked and sorted before a five-day cold soak to extract additional flavors and tannins. The red varieties are partially de-stemmed but not crushed, and punched down in open-top fermenters to extract color and flavor. After vinification, the wines are aged in French oak for up to 15 months, with the proportion of new oak dependent on the wine. Racking is usually only done once before the wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered.
