The 2016 Stiling Chardonnay opens with intoxicating floral aromas of muscat and honeysuckle. Layers of Meyer lemon, honeysuckle and citrus flavors glide across the palate. Supported by subtle oak and a natural acidity that adds vibrancy and length, this wine is both refreshing and expansive, with elegant notes of muscat lingering on the finish. - Winemaker Note
About The Producer:
Nickel & Nickel is located in Oakville, Napa Valley, along Highway 29, on 42 acres that were originally settled as a farmstead in the 1880s. Our collection of classic barns along with the site’s original Queen Ann-style home brings the historic farmstead back to life. Housed within the genteel farmstead structures is an ultra-modern winery uniquely suited to producing single-vineyard wines.
The John C. Sullenger House Named for John C. Sullenger, who purchased the land in 1865 and established the farmstead in the 1880s, the 2,800 square-foot Sullenger House is a handsome farmhouse with charming Queen Anne details, built around 1884. Abandoned and neglected for more than two decades, the home was restored in 2002 and provides a warm and friendly welcome to our winery guests.
What lies beneath our Napa Valley farmstead may be the greatest surprise. Accessed by descending a stairway housed in a traditional stone outbuilding, our 30,000 square-foot subterranean barrel cellar appears as a beautifully dramatic and unexpected room. Located beneath the fermentation barns, wine is moved gently from the tank to barrel through the cellar’s custom-formed hollow columns. Each row of French oak barrels represents an entire vintage of each of our single-vineyard wines.
The Gleason Barn Originally built circa 1770 in Meriden, New Hampshire by the Gleason family, the 3,000 square-foot pre-Revolutionary War-era hay barn was spared demolition in 2001. After two years spent dismantling the barn, designing blueprints, restoring and saving the wood beams, the barn was shipped in pieces to Nickel & Nickel and was reconstructed at our winery in 2003 to house offices and a laboratory for the winemaking staff.
The fermentation barns are the only modern buildings at Nickel & Nickel, yet they were constructed using age-old techniques. The North Fermentation Barn is built with reclaimed, century-old fir beams and features traditional American barn-building methods. The South Fermentation Barn reflects a more light-filled architectural style. Both structures feature hand-joinery for post and beam construction that was common in antiquity, yet they house a modern winery designed exclusively to produce our Nickel & Nickel single-vineyard wines.
